A new study has discovered that Giraffes are the most popular souvenir for Britain’s trophy hunters.

The report by the Wildlife & Conservation Foundation (Ban Trophy Hunting) looked at CITES data on trade in hunting trophies of endangered species. Between 2020 and 2024 (the most recent year for which official data is currently available), Giraffes topped the list.

Hunters’ souvenirs included bones, feet, leather products, skins, and other trophies. Behind them were trophies of American black bears, followed by African elephants and Lions. Most of the lions had been shot in fenced-in enclosures. Leopards, hippopotamuses, zebras and monkeys made it into the ‘top ten’ too.

Among the more unusual hunters’ trophies to be recorded by CITES were body parts of sheep, goats, and a type of snake. All were shot for ‘sport’.
