The Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting is devastated by the passing of Dr Jane Goodall, a towering figure in conservation whose life’s work has inspired generations to protect the natural world.

Dr Goodall’s unique ability to connect with both people and animals changed forever the way humanity views our relationship with wildlife.

Earlier this year, Dr Goodall joined the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting via video link at a landmark event in the Houses of Parliament. Speaking to a packed audience of MPs, peers, and supporters, she delivered a powerful appeal to the UK government to enact without delay the long-promised ban on the import of hunting trophies. Her voice, filled with urgency and wisdom, reminded us that history will judge us not by what we say, but by what we do to protect the voiceless.

Eduardo Gonçalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting and a friend of Dr Goodall, said: “Absolutely heartbroken to hear of the death of Jane Goodall. She was a passionate supporter of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, and wrote forewords to two of my books, including my most recent investigation into trophy hunting companies, ‘Shoot One Lion – Get One Free’. We did parliamentary events and media appearances together. Despite her advanced years, she continued to work frenetically to support conservation causes around the world. She would often message me in between plane connections, such was her unstoppable pace! The world has lost a conservation giant. The world’s wildlife has lost one of its loudest and most important voices.”

Dr Jane Goodall’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those she inspired and in the lives of the animals she devoted herself to protecting. The best way we can honour her is to carry forward her message: that every individual matters, every action counts, and together we can change the world.
