Cheetahs

Cheetahs can be shot and killed for fun, and their bodies imported to the UK

“Globally, this species is considered Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM, with a declining extant population of less than 7,000 individuals found primarily in the savannahs of Africa”

CITES.org

The world’s fastest cat has been listed on Appendix I since 1975, but 205 cheetahs can be killed this year

β€œAnnual export quotas for live specimens and hunting trophies are granted as follows: Botswana: 5; Namibia: 150; Zimbabwe: 50. “

That’s 205 cheetahs that can be legally killed for fun.

Take Action Today. Under current British law cheetah ‘trophies’ can be imported. Please tell the UK government this is unacceptable. Go to our page on the UK consultation here

In addition to these legal killings, threats to cheetahs include a growing illegal trade in cheetahs as pets, and habitat loss, are increasing the likelihood that this species will be another extinct species.
